Geet Dhillon : A girl we love to LOVE

“Main apni favorite hoon”.

“Mujhe shaadi karne ka bahut craze hai, by god”.

“Aap convince ho gaye ki main aur bolu?”.

“Tum aise hi bakwaas karti ho ya aaj koi special occasion hai”

“Isiko to kehte hai Zindagi”

“Agar woh meri life mein na hota toh – you never know –  shayad main bhi tumse patt jadi – Just imagine”

“Tumhe uthakar museum mein rakhna chahiye, ticket lagni chahiye tumhe dekhne ke liye”

“Tu original piece hai”

Ever come across hearing these dialogues, you have to guess it correct; It’s from “Jab We Met”, a film that inspired us to live life with goodness and happiness around. Kareena Kapoor Khan humanized Geet vivaciously and with subtle tenderness that she ended up being the soul of the film. She has not only touched audience and critics heart alike but also won several awards under ‘Best actress in a leading role’ category and why shouldn’t she? Geet is role of a lifetime and no one can recreate it even Kareena herself, that magickal is it. Thank you Imtiaz Ali for giving us one of the best characters you ‘ve written we could root for.

So what lessons did we learn from this feisty Sikhni from Bhatinda  who dares not to keep any doubt in our mind?

Self love is the best love:

self-love

This was quoted by one of my closest friend and social activists Harrish Iyer, but this happen to personify Geet in totality. She is someone who pays no heed to what other’s have to say. She loves herself, admires her strength & acknowledges her weakness. She isn’t afraid to take risk or face difficult situations because she is confident, she is capable of making her way out. Geet believes in taking responsibilities of her own actions rather than putting a blame on others. Best way to live a life is to live as if there is no tomorrow; I am not saying being serious about your life is wrong, all I want to convey is let us start to appreciate smallest of the smallest miracles we witness in our life and be full of gratitude for it.

Burn your exes photo and flush it out:

I know how vague it sounds, this is our Madam Geet’s philosophy and surprisingly it does work. Fire is not always about rage or expressing anger, it’s also about liberation and the fact that you are able to start something new with the element of fire. When Aditya burns his exes photo and flush it, he could sense a light within him, not only does he liberates her but also in the process free himself from the bond and it’s always for the betterment of both. Separation is a blessing in disguise.

Parents are also human beings who craves to love and to be loved:

Aditya is seen to have troubled childhood and doesn’t share a cordial bond with his mother because she left her family for a man she loved. When he reveals this to Geet, without persecuting her she puts across her humanistic point of view that initially irks Aditya but later realizes it’s true. Geet says his mom was in love and she did this for the sake of a guy she loved from the bottom of her heart. There is no such thing as good or bad, love just happens and we often need to go with the flow. No matter how progressive we become, we always perceive our parents from a limited thought-process seldom realizing that they need love and it is absolutely fine to do so even if their actions may not justify it as it should.

Take risk. Whether it is worth a deal or not, experience it.

shahidAhem, yes, jumping on a lake is one of the risk. But trust Geet to do something different altogether.

She takes a huge leap of faith by running away from home, enroute to Shimla to meet her boyfriend Anshuman and we all saw what happened. Anshuman, out of fear, not only snub her but also humiliates her enough to not see her again and ever come across her path. We all knew Geet made the worst decision of her life but as they say, when one door gets shuts, other opens up on it’s own. She is spotted by a nun and lives a calm yet soulless life in a convent and work as a teacher. She strips of her “geetness”to swallow the harshest reality of her life : She was rejected. Meanwhile, Anshuman might rightly be called out for being such a rude human, we couldn’t help but empathize him too because all of a sudden when you see your distant girlfriend, standing in front of your house to propose and insist you to get married; it can freak any sane minded person.

As you sow, so shall you reap:

Geet is an amazing girl who would never hurt anyone. She is someone who believes in uplifting sad souls and help them to heal themselves and be happy. Aditya, who at one point of time felt his life was worthless, found rebirth after meeting Geet who rejuvenated him, changed his perception towards life and become successful in his endeavours. Having come to realize that Geet never made it back home after long 9 months, he goes to Shimla and much to his shock and sadness see a Geet he failed to recognize. She wasn’t the Geet he knew. It was his time to bring her back to her cheerful best. Aditya employed all the tactics of life, Geet once shared with him, to her and *ting* our Geet was back, not that enthusiastic but she did. She sent love across and received it in multitudes of forms and Aditya is one of them.

First Love is not your true love (always):

Anshuman was Geet’s first love and but never her true love. The day Anshuman severed ties with her, it was all over. Yet after 9 months, he goes back to Geet and expresses his desire to marry her but this time her feelings changed. It was Aditya who wanted Geet in his life but she took good time to introspect with whom she want to live with. Eventually she chooses true love over first love. YES, ADITYA.

We have a common tendency to mistake first love as true love. There have been amazing stories of first love to be true love but not all are lucky as them. This concept of clinging to first love after breakup can do more harm than anything, it’s always beautiful to keep the door of your heart open because you just never know when true love knocks the door.

Watch “Jab We Met” and fall in love with our Sikhni all over again.
